CAPE KID MEALS

2022-2023 School Year

It's our 6th year donating the fruit that is included in the bags given out by Cape Kid Meals to the food-insecure children in the DY, Barnstable, Mashpee, Sandwich & Falmouth school districts. Unfortunately, with each year, the need on Cape Cod increases. So much so that our donation more than doubled this year to $15,842.90 of apples and oranges!

October 2021

Our second month-long fundraiser raises $9500 for Cape Kid Meals!

Once again, October was designated Cape Kid Meals month, which meant inviting customers to donate $16, the amount that it takes to sponsor a food-insecure child over the weekend for a month. To cap off the month, we matched all donations made on the last day of the fundraiser! When it was all said and done, over $9500 was raised! A big thank you to all who took part.

2020-2021 School Year

Over the past 4 years, we have been donating the apples & oranges that are included in the bags handed out to the food-insecure children in the DY, Barnstable, Mashpee, Sandwich & Falmouth school districts. It goes without saying that the 20-21 school year saw the highest need ever and the Marketplace was pleased to donate more than $7500.00 worth of fruit to these children in our community.

Month-long fundraiser raises $9708.19 for Cape Kid Meals!

This October, we designated October as Cape Kid Meals month. In doing that we invited customers through signage & social media to donate $16, the amount that it takes to sponsor a food-insecure child over the weekend for a month. And as usual, our customers didn't disappoint! Many even sponsored multiple children. To cap off the month, we matched all donations made on October 29th, which resulted in $5,798.14 in total donations that day alone! When it was all said and done, $9708.19 was raised, and we couldn't have been happier by the outpouring of support from our great community.

Store vendors help us kickoff Back-To-School while supporting Cape Kid Meals.

Back-To-School week is a great time to highlight the foods we carry that are perfect for lunchboxes and after-school snacks. We also think it's an appropriate week to remind people that there are hungry children on Cape Cod and that by supporting Ring Bros. Marketplace, an apple and an orange is given to each of those children who receive food bags from Cape Kid Meals. As a thank you, we gave out free apples all week.

In conjunction, all week long vendors provided us with product to sample as well as product for the children in the program. Those fantastic vendors included Made Good Foods, From The Ground Up Snacks, Yolo Snacks, Golden Girl Granola, The Good Crisp Company, Don't Go Nuts, Annie's Homegrown, Hint Water, Polar Seltzer, Tate's Cookies, and Natalie's Orchid Island Juice.

Serving up samples throughout the store, the Zest Fest is free & open to the public.

The festivals are never complete without helping to bring awareness to a local cause. Once again, Ring Bros. Marketplace was proud to support Cape Kids Meals.  A raffle with multiple prizes was held to benefit the non-profit & a representative was on hand to provide information. Ring Bros. Marketplace was proud to announce that their customers bought $1,150 worth of raffle tickets, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to Cape Kid Meals.

Ring Bros. Customers Donate $1,373 To Cape Kid Meals

Ring Bros. Marketplace hosted Cape Kid Meals, the nonprofit organization devoted to feeding local food-insecure children, on Sept. 7 and 8 for a back-to-school fundraising drive, according to a statement by Ring Bros.

During the two-day event, representatives from Cape Kid Meals were on hand to answer questions as well as to accept monetary donations in exchange for a bag filled with healthy snack samples donated by various vendors of the Marketplace. As a result, $1,373 was raised to benefit Cape Cod children.

In addition to hosting the drive, Ring Bros. Marketplace has pledged to provide up to 800 pieces of fresh fruit weekly to Cape Kid Meals this school year. Cape Kid Meals will include this fruit in the food bags they assemble for the almost 400 children in participating elementary schools across the Cape. These weekly food bags are given to children who would otherwise go hungry with little or no food on weekends during the school year.

Established in 2014 at two elementary schools in Dennis, Cape Kid Meals is the Cape Cod chapter of Blessings in a Backpack. From gathering, packing and delivering the food to raising money, Cape Kid Meals is an all-volunteer organization committed to feeding children identified by school social workers as eligible based on their needs. Currently available to students in 15 schools, Cape Kid Meals knows there’s a need across all Cape Cod school districts and hopes to one day be able to provide all those children with food bags.

Information about Cape Kid Meals may be found at capekidmeals.org.

Ring Bros. Marketplace teams up with Cape Kid Meals to help feed local children

Schoolchildren in need will receive fresh fruit each week

Ring Bros. Marketplace has pledged to provide 600 pieces of fresh fruit weekly to Cape Kid Meals this school year. Cape Kid Meals will include this fruit in the food bags they assemble for 300 food-insecure children in participating elementary schools across the Cape. These weekly food bags are given to children who would otherwise go hungry with little or no food on weekends during the school year.

“The people of Cape Cod have been very good to us. They’ve afforded us the opportunity to raise our families here while doing what we love.” says Rich Pimental, co-owner along with his son of Dark Horse Beef & Deli. “So, when we became aware of Cape Kids Meals and the work they do for local children, we knew we had to be a part of it.”

Each week the food bags are filled with a variety of non-perishable food items. From soup & oatmeal to applesauce, cereal bars, and juice boxes, the children receive a wide variety of food to eat over the two days that they’re not in school. Now included in these bags will be both an apple and orange from Ring Bros. Marketplace.

“Food insecurity is a real and growing issue for many children on Cape Cod, and increased awareness of this fact will lead to increased involvement.  Ring Bros. has chosen that kind of involvement. By Ring Bros. Marketplace providing this for the entire program it enables us to use funds otherwise spent on fruit, to feed even more children.” says Tammy Leone, Cape Kid Meals’ director.

Established in 2014 at two elementary schools in Dennis, Cape Kid Meals is the Cape Cod chapter of Blessings in a Backpack. From gathering, packing & delivering the food to the more difficult job of raising the money, Cape Kid Meals is an all-volunteer organization committed to feeding those children identified by school social workers as eligible based on their needs. Currently available to students in 9 schools, Cape Kid Meals knows that there’s a need across all Cape Cod school districts and hopes to one day be able to provide all those children with food bags.
